CONCEPT
Accessibility: Neighborhood and city – specificity of a place and metropolitan connections.
How to enhance the habitability and the human scale of a place and foster the interaction between those who live in the neighborhood and those who “use” for any specific reason? Can this overlap generate new opportunities?
Territorial strategy: the project proposes a network of lines and points that overlaps with the existing urban fabric. This mesh connects the design area with the landmarks at the metropolitan scale that characterize the neighbourhood, among others the MAXXI, the Auditorium della Musica, the Palazzetto dello Sport, the Stadio Flaminio, the Lungotevere.
The proposal, therefore, calls into question the idea that these urban and territorial elements may work only as isolated points related to the infrastructural systems.
The contamination between local specificities and metropolitan landmarks may create development opportunities that will positively influence the life, and the social and economical context of the area.
These ideas have been translated into design through a careful reading of the specific typological characters of the area. A large part of the residential units are elevated on Pilotis leaving thus the ground space virtually free to be used as a continuous public space.
Today however this continuity is only ideal and the public space that could permeate between the residential blocks is interrupted by parking areas.
For this reason, the project proposes a mesh of lines and points that follows an alternative scheme suggesting unexpected views that connect green and public spaces otherwise rigidly defined
This network of paths is grafted onto the backbone of the park, it defines its measures at the human scale and connects it with the existing metropolitan landmarks.
The Via Flaminia ideally and physically connects the axis of Piazza Venezia / Piazza del Popolo with Ponte Milvio: the project, therefore, proposes the extension of the linear park up to touch this axis thus identifying an important connection with the historical city and its specific measures.
